This walk departs from the Greymouth Railway
Station at 7.30am each morning. Pre-booking is

making your way up the Lions Walk to gain
views of the Barber as it escapes out to sea.

the Railway Station.

into the Rapahoe Range Scenic Reserve. You
will climb steadily uphill through native

with views of Greymouth the Tasman Sea and the
Southern Alps. You will need good walking
shoes and can expect muddy patches at some
points, a reasonable level of fitness and
agility is required.
Be aware that temperatures inside the Barber
can reach below zero, and the wind can be
forceful and cold. Please dress appropriately
for the expected conditions.
All tours include commentary by professional
storytellers.
We cannot guarantee an enhanced katabatic wind
on any given day, but the Barber runs
regularly from April – November each year, and
periodically outside these months. On most
days you will certainly feel the wind if not
experiencing the fog and mist. If you do not
experience an enhanced katabatic wind on the
day of your walk, you are welcome to rejoin
another Barber walk within the same week for
free.
